Dr. George Gillespie OBE, Director at HORIBA, assumed the presidency of the Japan Business Council in Europe (JBCE) on June 18. In this role, he will represent the organization at the European level for a two-year term and play a key role in shaping its strategic direction.

JBCE President

With more than 30 years of international experience in the industrial sector, Dr. Gillespie brings extensive expertise to his new role. As JBCE President, he represents the interests of member companies at the European level and engages in high-level forums, including the EU–Japan Business Round Table—one of the central platforms for economic and policy dialogue between the European Union and Japan.
In this capacity, he also represents the HORIBA Group and its European activities, including HORIBA FuelCon GmbH, based in Barleben.

The Japan Business Council in Europe was founded in 1999 and is now a leading European organization representing the interests of more than 100 multinational companies of Japanese parentage active in Europe. Its members span a wide range of industries. Strengthening cooperation between the European Union and Japan is at the core of JBCE’s activities. The organization operates through several committees focusing on Corporate Sustainability, Digital Innovation, Environment & Energy, Standards and Conformity, and Trade. By sharing its members’ expertise with policymakers, JBCE actively contributes to European policymaking.

A Significant Milestone

HORIBA has been an active member of the JBCE since 2005 and has consistently supported its mission. With Dr. Gillespie’s appointment, the global HORIBA Group assumes the presidency of the organization for the first time for a two-year term—marking an important milestone and highlighting its long-standing commitment to Europe.

As part of the international HORIBA Group, HORIBA FuelCon also contributes its specific expertise in hydrogen, fuel cell, and testing technologies. The company exemplifies the Group’s technological capabilities in the field of sustainable energy solutions.

Strengthening EU–Japan Collaboration

Dr. Gillespie emphasizes the strategic importance of the JBCE as a platform for economic and cultural cooperation between Europe and Japan. HORIBA will continue to foster dialogue between both regions and support the development of sustainable, long-term partnerships.
